Skiing as a family is one of the best experiences Sierra Nevada has to offer. Watching a child glide for the first time with a huge smile makes any early start or lift queue worthwhile. But parents often have questions: from what age can they start? Is it safe? How do you keep their attention?

From what age can they learn?

At Explora School & Club we welcome children from age 3 in adapted lessons. At that age the goal is not perfect carving but getting used to snow, equipment and the feeling of sliding. Between 4 and 6, we work on basic stance, balance and first turns. From 7 onwards, progress speeds up noticeably.

Lessons designed for their age and level

Children do not learn like adults. They need shorter, more dynamic sessions with plenty of positive reinforcement. Our qualified instructors adapt language, exercises and pace to each group. We use games, simple challenges and frequent breaks so they have fun while learning.

Safety first

A helmet is essential for the youngest and highly recommended for everyone. In children's lessons we check that equipment fits properly: boots, bindings and ski length. We also teach basic slope rules adapted to their understanding: stopping, respecting others and following the instructor.

Private lesson or group?

For a first time, a private lesson or very small group is usually best. The instructor can give individual attention and parents gain peace of mind. If several children in the family or friends share a similar level, a private lesson for up to 8 participants is cost-effective and very effective.

Tips for parents on lesson day

Dress your child in warm layers and bring spare gloves in case they get wet. Have a calm breakfast and arrive with time to spare: a rushed child starts off worse. Do not push for progress: every child has their own pace. Celebrate every small achievement, even just standing on skis.

Club Creando Aventuras: continuity for young skiers

If your child catches the snow bug, Club Deportivo Creando Aventuras offers continuous progression for children and young people aged 5 to 18, with technical lessons in the morning and freestyle in the afternoon. It is the way to turn a day on snow into a long-term passion.
