What is adaptive skiing?
It is skiing or snowboarding adapted to each person's needs. It may include bi-skis, mono-skis, sit-skis, outriggers or other support devices. The instructor assesses motor ability, prior experience and goals to design a safe, rewarding session.
Who can take part?
People with reduced mobility, spinal injuries, amputations, visual impairment, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and other conditions can ski with the right equipment and technique. No prior snow experience is needed: many participants start from scratch with very positive results.
The importance of a specialised instructor
Being a good skier is not enough. Adaptive skiing requires specific training, patience and adapted communication. Our qualified instructors know the equipment, transfer techniques and safety protocols for each adaptive format.
Advance planning: the key to success
Before the lesson it helps to share information about mobility, medication, cold sensitivity and expectations. That way we prepare equipment, choose the right slope and adjust session length. The more we talk beforehand, the better the experience on the mountain.
Families and companions
Many families discover adaptive skiing as an activity they can share. Sometimes relatives ski in parallel while the participant works with their instructor; sometimes the whole family learns together at their own pace. What matters is that no one is left out of the snow day plan.
